Discover How Natural Ingredients Are Changing the Game for Sensitive, Dry, and Acne-Prone Skin.
Hey. It's Andrew. I started Clàirmont Skincare.
Ever wonder why your skin gets red, dry, or irritated?
Yeah. This was me about a year ago.
I had acne for 16 years, and I've struggled with every skin type. Oily, dry, sensitive, you name it.
I spent years testing products—some delivered results, but always at the cost of irritation.
Men shouldn't have to make that choice.
I started Clàirmont Skincare to fix this.
The goal of Clàirmont Skincare is to support men's skin with products that are effective and gentle through plant-based ingredients.
We use scientifically backed plant extracts to heal, protect, and rejuvenate skin, and replace harsh ingredients with gentler alternatives.
Here are some interesting stats for you:
"Men use an average of six personal care products that contain 85 different chemicals."
"50-60% of men report having some degree of sensitive skin."
The fact is, many skincare products have harsh chemicals that strip your natural skin barrier.
Other ingredients like formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, and sulfates are common too–all of which can disrupt your hormones and pose health risks.
Recognize any of these products? 👇
I took this picture about a year ago, and it's only a fraction of the products that I have in my bathroom.
Just look at what these products did to my skin, and what happened when I switched to plants:
I know what you're thinking.
Plants? Can plants really fix my skin?
I get it. I thought the same thing not too long ago.
The right plant-based ingredients are powerful enough to transform your skin while being gentle enough to keep it healthy. Let me show you how.
"Plant materials can be applied topically for skin care purposes, as well as for the treatment of numerous skin diseases. Their advantage is that they are gentle but effective, safe and non-toxic, without side effects."
Plants have been used for centures to heal, protect, and revitalize skin, and recent scientific studies have shown promising results for plant-based extracts in skincare products.
A 2023 study published in International Journal of Molecular Sciences highlights how plant extracts offer safe and effective solutions for treating skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, and eczema, while also providing benefits for use in skincare (e.g., antioxidant, antibacterial, moisturizing, regenerating, cleansing, smoothing or lightening).
The study highlights the benefits of plant extracts, including:
• Protection against UV radiation and skin damange
• Regeneration and wound healing
• Anti-Aging properties
• Anti-tyrosinase effects (helping reduce dark spots, melasma, or uneven skin tone)
Plants contain many bioactive compounds, antioxidants, and vitamins that nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
These elements evolved over millions of years to survive harsh environments, defend against stressors, and repair themselves.
Let's get specific about some ingredients we use at Clàirmont Skincare.
Below we'll outline three of our most common plant ingredients in our products.
Sunflower Seed Oil isn't just for cooking—it’s packed with skin benefits! Studies over the past 13 years, including research on humans, show that Sunflower Seed Oil helps soothe sensitive skin, reduce irritation, and protect against sun damage and aging.
A study published by Applied Science Reports found that fatty acids from Sunflower Seed Oil were shown to alleviate symptoms associated with skin sensitivity and inflammatory skin disorders, as well as to protect skin from photodamage and photoaging.
What does this mean for you?
It strengthens the skin barrier, reduces inflammation, promotes wound healing, and even helps fight harmful cells, such as those associated with certain skin conditions.
Cucumbers have been a skincare staple for centuries, and modern science only confirms what we’ve always known–they're a powerhouse for your skin. Known for their cooling and soothing properties, they can help calm sunburns, reduce redness, and ease irritation.
Packed with antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins like vitamin C, cucumbers boost skin cell renewal and help manage acne. With 96% water content, they deeply hydrate your skin, reducing puffiness and early signs of aging.
Plus, their vitamin C and beta-carotene protect against free radical damage, promote collagen, and improve skin elasticity for fewer fine lines and wrinkles. It's nature’s ultimate refresh for your skin.
A study published by Agrobios Research outlines these benefits.
Did you know? Ancient Greeks crushed chamomile and applied it directly to soothe irritated skin.
Chamomile contains apigenin, a potent antioxidant that calms inflammation and promotes healthier, more resilient skin.
Research from Anticancer Research suggests that apigenin may reduce skin damage from UVB exposure and even lower the risk of UV-induced skin issues. In one study, apigenin treatment prior to UV exposure reduced cancer incidence by up to 52% in a controlled experiment.
Apigenin reduces skin damage signals, supports natural defense, and aids in the repair of damaged skin.
Chamomile also contains compounds like alpha-bisabolol, alpha-bisabolol oxides A & B, and matricin, which posess anti-inflammatory properties.
We get it, plants are effective.
But what about harsh synthetic chemicals?
You say that your skincare is effective and gentle. So what makes it gentle?
Good question. Let's talk about some examples of how we aim to make our skincare gentle.
1. Replace harsh cleansing agents
2. Replace harsh preservatives
3. Include hydrating agents
4. Include skin-soothing ingredients
5. Enhance skin barrier support
We aim to replace harsh cleansing agents (surfactants) to milder ones that don't strip your natural skin barrier.
Let's take a look at the cleansing agents in our cleansers.
Decyl Glucoside – A mild, plant-derived non-ionic surfactant that provides gentle cleansing.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine – A gentle amphoteric surfactant that boosts foam and reduces irritation.
Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate – A mild, amphoteric surfactant that works as a co-surfactant to enhance cleansing and foaming.
The Chamomile Gel Wash also features Willow Bark Extract, a gentle, natural alternative to synthetic Salisylic Acid.
This foaming gel wash is infused with Chamomile to soothe irritation and is perfect for normal to oily skin types.
Sodium Cocoamphoacetate – A mild, amphoteric surfactant derived from coconut that gently cleanses and conditions the skin.
Decyl Glucoside – A mild, plant-derived non-ionic surfactant that provides gentle cleansing.
Sucrose Cocoate – A gentle surfactant derived from sucrose and coconut oil that provides mild cleansing and leaves a moisturizing effect.
This lotion cleanser is infused with Chamomile, Cucumber, Japanese Green Tea, and Aloe Vera Leaf Juice to soothe irritation, provide antioxidant protection, and hydrate. It's perfect for dry skin.
Preservatives can irritate the skin. While no skincare products can be perfectly irritation-free while preserving a long shelf life, we replace preservatives that are shown to be irritating for ones that are gentler on the skin.
Here are a few examples:
• Grapefruit Seed Extract – Found in our Cucumber Toner, its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties helps preserve the product while offering skin benefits like soothing and reducing inflammation.
• Caprylyl Glycol – A naturally derived glycol from coconut oil or palm kernel oil, it acts as a skin-conditioning agent and helps preserve the product by inhibiting microbial growth.
• Caprylhydroxamic Acid – Derived from coconut oil, it acts as a natural chelator and preservative by preventing microbial growth and boosts the effectiveness of other preservatives.
• Phenoxyethanol – Though not directly plant-based, it is often paired with natural preservatives to create effective systems. It's gentle compared to harsher chemical preservatives and is considered safe in small doses.
We believe it's important to add hydrating agents (humectants) to all our products.
A hydrating agent is one that works to add water to the skin. Hydrating agents are in all of our products.
Some of our hydrating agents, among others, are:
Glycerin – A powerful humectant that attracts water to the skin, keeping it hydrated and soft.
Aloe Vera Leaf Juice – Hydrates while soothing irritation and inflammation, promoting calm and refreshed skin.
Sodium Hyaluronate – A form of hyaluronic acid that binds water to the skin, providing deep, long-lasting hydration and plumpness.
We believe modern skincare fails to rebuild our natural skin barrier.
A barrier support agent works to retain water by strengthening the skin's outermost layer and sealing in hydration.
Some of our barrier support agents, among others, are:
Plant Oils – Like Sunflower Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Grape Seed Oil, these oils are emollients that replenish skin lipids and support barrier integrity.
Fatty Alcohols – Like Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol work as emollients and help reinforce the skin barrier.
Shea Butter – Rich in fatty acids, it helps repair and strengthen the skin barrier while locking in moisture.
Skin-soothing ingredients calm redness and irritation, and we believe all skincare should have them.
Some of our soothing ingredients, among others, are:
Chamomile – Known for its anti-inflammatory and calming properties. It soothes redness and irritation, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
Aloe Vera Leaf Juice – Hydrates and soothes, helping to calm irritated or inflamed skin.
Green Tea – Rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces redness and protects the skin from environmental stress.
